The sun shone for us, in fact it was a bit too hot, the B team had a very nice little walk from North Rigton to Askwith. We did spot a symbol and the OS map that puzzled us.
The symbol BS, is it
A Bus Stop,
B Bad Style,
C Boundary Stone.
Phil and i did not attend this, a friend celebrated is 50th birthday so we were otherwise engaged.
Sunday 20th June 2010
The walk was a nature lovers special. We took in Bempton Cliffs. Starting at the unique village of Speeton, made a wish at the wishing well. A 5 minute walk to the cliffs gave a spectacular view of Filey Bay. We saw puffins, gannets and razor bills feeding their young and listened to the skylarks. Coffee break was at the Bempton visitors centre. Green fiches and tree sparrows visited the feeding stations. In Flamborough town centre the Dog and Duck have reserved a room for us. Phil
The walk of the day with an A walk and a B walk, with Bev taking the B walkers, the weather was very warm and sunny, starting at Redmire Village on to Castle Bolton, we had some stops for refreshments and photo shots of the Castle and Aysgarth Falls. A very nice walk, some little gates and styles to climb. Winding paths and little hills up and downsome very interesting places on the way to Aysgarth Falls and park, also flower meadows and you could hear the pipits and lots of Lapwings flying around. Walking along to Aysgarth was really pretty with the wild flowers in bloom, green fields, lots of lovely trees, cherry blossoms. As we arrived at the falls lots of people were sunbathing on the rocks. Bev soaking her feet in the water, we had a lovely break and then carried along the river bank. Thanks to Bev, all our leaders and the group of walkers, thanking our bus driver for our save journey . Carol
04 Once again we were lucky with the weather, it started out a bit cool, but we were soon stripping, going by the photo on the bridge I am not sure what everyone was looking for. Was it Sam's lost walking pole? Thanks for the sweets Sam, much appreciated. Bev
03 Didn't we do well for the weather in the Lakes this year, sunburn at the beginning of April. I think the ladies took the better option for the Saturday walk, we were not nearly as tired as the men. Phil and I even had a dry pack for our camping unit, the campsite at Skelwith Bridge was very good. It would have been better if we had all been able to be near the town centre like we are in Keswick.
Phil and I were unable to attend this walk, would someone like to contribute
The 'B' team selected the easier route from Moscar Lodge to High Bradfield, the views of the hills that the 'A' team choose looked white and cold. The 'big storm' that was predicted never arrived, it was a glorious walking day. The 'A' team rolled in tired but happy, and pink gaiters are going to become the height of walking fashion.
We have just returned from an excellent day walking finishing at Hathersage, a bit slippery underfoot, and the two teams can walk the same walk in different directions. Stanedge was interesting in the snow.
I went on the ‘B’ walk with Bev, the weather was far and the terrain good. Not too hilly. Lovely view and with plenty of time for breaks and photo taking of which my camera refused. Bev took photos for me, very kind of her. I think we went wrong a few times, but soon it was put right by Bev. A long walk in the morning and I liked the view of Harwood House in the distant and the little nature wood up the hill and the spring flowers around us, .very nice, the bird life and animals. No afternoon walk as the weather broke up and a thunderstorm came to spoil the walking. Everyone enjoyed the walk. Thank you to all our leaders who planned, lead the walking for the group, and as always to our bus driver who gets us safely there and back from our day out walking. Many thanks. Also to all the walking group for a happy days walking. Carol.
